Twisted Sketches Sketch #148

Asia

Today over at Twisted Sketches they have posted Sketch #148.  The twist is "star".

I chose to use the new Baby Girl collection by Bella Blvd. to create this layout of my furry friend Asia.  I wanted to do something different than use the typical pet themed papers.  Isn't she sweet?  She is my "star" kitty but a week ago we adopted another kitty from the local animal shelter and it's a boy.  He is Sheldon and he is named after one of my favourite sitcom "The Big Bang Theory".  He is twice the size of Asia and the most laid back cat.  He is a very welcome addition to our home.

Sheldon
I hope you can play along with me and the entire team at Twisted Sisters.  You can find this week's sketch here.

Have a scrappy day!

Scrapbook Challenges Sketch #292

Sketch #292

This week at Scrapbook Challenges we have an awesome sketch from the talented Jowilna.  I love her sketch.  I created a two page layout with some fabulous Bo Bunny.  Bo Bunny always has beautiful paper collections and I just had to buy "Country Garden" to create this spring layout of my parents, my youngest son and I at Easter in 2010.

Here is the one page sketch:

and here is the two page sketch:

Spring is finally here and now is the time for some gardening and outdoor activities but why not try this sketch and keep your creative juices flowing all year round.

Earth Day Eco Scrapping

Today, April 22 is Earth Day and I thought it would be appropriate to blog today about how I try to do the three r's.  Reduce, reuse and recycle in my scrapbooking and other crafty ventures.

Where I live recycling has become second nature.  Our home has been recycling almost everything for about two years now.  We have a curb side pickup service that comes around.  We still have to sort our glass, plastics and paper into two separate bins for the pickup service.  I must admit I do not compost yet, but am realizing with all the fruit and vegetables that my family consumes, it is time to get serious about it.

As far as scrapbooking goes there are lots of ways I am recycling.  I like to use old packaging on scrapbook pages and mixed media projects.  Fabric from old clothing I use for flowers as well as ribbon.  I have used fabric softener dryer sheets to make flowers for my scrapbook layouts and my mom recently gave me a big jar of awesome antique buttons that I plan to use for all my crafty projects.  I recycle all of my tiny paper scraps and if I do create with them, I like to use them for cards or embellishments by punching out circles or flowers.

As I am a complete paper fanatic, it is really hard for me to refrain from buying a few collections annually, but with that said, I am in the process of going through my old papers and either donating to some worthy causes such as therapeutic scrapbooking at local hospitals or donating to schools or my lovely ten year old niece who is starting to scrapbook.  I am becoming more conscious of what I buy.

Mixed media is something I have enjoyed this year and I like to use tissue paper from gifts and old book pages and cardboard boxes to spray my projects in.  Sometimes I like to use cardboard for texture on my projects and also cereal boxes for mini albums and templates.

I also like to use magazines and old greeting cards on my mixed media projects as well as I use magazines for colour inspiration in my colour inspiration journal.  As far as scrapbooking magazines, I keep all my Canadian Scrapbooker Magazines since it began, but only keep the other ones for about a year and then I donate them.

I would love to hear what you do to reduce, reuse and recycle.  Please leave me a comment.

Thanks so much for stopping by.  Enjoy Earth Day!

Get Messy!

Hi everyone!  Thanks for taking the time to stop by!

Today I have a fun challenge for you!  My challenge is for you to get messy with any medium of your choice whether it is paint, glitter, sprays, modelling paste or whatever your heart desires and have some fun with it!

I created this layout of my husband and his other love.  I wanted it to be fun and messy and playful so I chose paint dabbers and created paint splats on my page and also painted my chipboard letters and arrows.

Here Comes Trouble

I would love to see what you come up with.

Why don't you share it with us here at  Scrapbook Challenges in the forum thread and gallery.

Have fun!

Twisted Sketches Sketch #146

I always love Anam's sketches.  I especially love circles so this weeks sketch is my kind of sketch.  The twist on this sketch was "brads" anyhow, anyway.  I used a cupcake brad to dot my "i" in the title word "baking".

Baking With Love

Scrapbooking is my passion and when I am not scrapbooking, I love to cook and bake so this paper from Little Yellow Bicycle was the perfect choice.  It is from the "Savoury" Collection.  There is also some October Afternoon papers and embellishments too.  Every Sunday I usually make pancakes or waffles and these were chocolate pancakes that I made to celebrate spring.

I hope you get inspired by Anam's sketches as much as I do.  You can find the sketch here.

Have a great day!

Scrapbook Challenges Sketch #290

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter.  It was great to celebrate and have a turkey dinner and all the trimmings.  I never get tired of turkey and think I could eat chicken and turkey every day, but my husband prefers beef so I try to cook beef once a week.  As I am following Weight Watchers, I tried to lighten up all my trimmings and still make it tasty.  With just a little planning, it really did work!  So far I have lost 16 pounds and I thought as I was putting the turkey in the oven to roast, that it was ironic that the turkey weighed 16 pounds.  So I look at it as I have lost a turkey so far in this weight loss journey.  Hahaha!   I still have about 3 more turkeys to lose and the doctor will be happy!

Anyway, on to the subject of scrapbooking....it's Monday and that means that Scrapbook Challenges has posted a new sketch to check out.  I really enjoyed working with this sketch.  I think it came together quite well and I like the negative space.

It was a layout on my husband and son when we went to the Scirocco Golf Club for a  Father's Day dinner last year.  I used the Happy Days collection by Echo Park.  I love the retro feel of these papers.

I hope you can play along with us.  Here are the  sketches:

They are some interesting sketches designed by our design team.  I love the originality!

Have a great day!

SC March Championship Challenge

Well it was quite the amazing race.  It was down to the final four.  March Madness began with 16 designers from all over the world.

The final four were Amanda (from the U.S.A. and myself (from Canada) and  Emmy (from the Netherlands) and Carmen (from Panama).  It was a very close race with Amanda getting 77 votes and myself getting 72 votes.  Also, on the other team, Emmy getting 93 votes and Carmen getting 89 votes.  It was a very exciting and close race indeed!

Now, it is down to the final two competing in the last round which will consist of digital scrapbooker extraordinaire  Amanda from the U.S.A.  and traditional scrapbooker extraordinaire Emmy from the Netherlands.  I am looking forward to this!

All is all it was so much fun and was very pleased to have made it this far.

Be sure and check out all the layouts and details here.

Have an amazing day!

SC Final 4 Challenge

Well I can't believe I have made it to the final 4 designers in the March Madness challenge over at Scrapbook Challenges.  We started with 16 of us, then it went to 8 and now there are 4 of us design team members remaining.

This challenge was so much fun.  The four of us remaining design team members  had to take the number of our March Madness signature.  On the Scrapbook Challenges forum mine is 07, which is also my favourite number.  We were then challenged to make a layout with that number of patterned papers.  I chose polka dots as I love them.  I used mostly October Afternoon's patterned papers and created a layout with seven different polka dot papers as well as chipboard letters that had polka dots as well as my dress.

The photos were taken on Mother's Day in 2009 and the layout is on my occupation Yes, I have been a maid, domestic engineer, cook, nurse, mom and wife for many years and I still love it.   The pay is lousy, but the rewards are great.  Oh, but I forgot that I also love to scrapbook.  That's for another layout on another day.

Hope you like the layout and thanks so much for stopping by.  Voting will begin later in the week to see who makes it to the final round of two designers.  I will let you know.  Have a great day!

Scrapbook Challenges Sketch #289

My Beautiful Family
Happy Monday!  Today I have a two page layout to share with you of my beautiful family.  The photo is of a digital calendar that I designed of my husband, my son and daughter in law, my daughter and her boyfriend (now her husband) and my youngest son and my parents.  It was back in 2008.  The summer of 2008 was an eventful summer as my parents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in July 2008 and my oldest son got married in August of 2008.  There was lots of scrapbooking to do that summer!

Basic Grey's Sweet Threads Collection came to the rescue for this particular two page layout that I designed for Sketch #289 at Scrapbook Challenges. There is a  lot of machine stitching on this one too.

Here is the sketch I based my layout on.  I chose to do the double page layout as it takes me out of my comfort zone.

Sketch #289 Double Page Layout

Come play along with us and partake in this fun sketch and challenge.  There are lots of challenges every week to have fun with.  Hop on over to Scrapbook Challenges to see what else is going on.

Have a wonderful day!
