Pink Floyd Concert

Hello friends!

I was asked by the lovely Laurel Seabrook to be a guest designer for the Inspired By Challenge Blog and I was more than happy to create a layout.

Last October, my youngest son turned eighteen years old and because it was a milestone birthday, my husband and I surprised him with a trip to see his favorite band Pink Floyd in concert.

To begin, I used my We R Memory Keepers Stitch Happy Sewing Machine and the Stitch Happy Thread in the color citrine and stitched a random design on the white card stock background. 

I wanted to add a guitar to the layout so I found the I Wanna Rock digital cut files from Just Nick Digital Cut Files, and cut them out with my Silhouette Cameo. 

For the guitar, I first cut the arrow patterned paper and then offset the design in the Silhouette Studio software and cut the guitar design out on black card stock as well as a few other designs for my layout.

Once I was done with the cutting, I had a lightbulb moment to use gold thread for the frets and black thread for the strings. I thought some pewter sequins would be great to embellish the head of the guitar. 

Of course I had to use some flair buttons that I have been waiting to use from the Rock On 3 Flair Set and the Hello Weekend Flair at A Flair For Buttons.  They were placed in a triangle design on the layout to draw the eyes around the page. 

The grey alphabet stickers for the title and the patterned papers were from Bella Blvd.'s Alex Collection. I outlined the alphabet stickers with a black fine line felt pen and then placed them on a border sticker and took my sewing machine and stitched across the title to make sure that they were going to stay put. 

I wanted to make sure that there was lots of dimension on my page. 

Once I had completed the layout, I thought the page didn't look complete and was missing something  so I decided to use the packaging technique and my Distress Oxide in Bundled Sage to add some mixed media to the layout. I think it gives it more of a grungy look and I was happier with the result. 

I think my son will like having a scrapbook page for this special memory.

A Mini Envelope Tutorial For My Creative Scrapbook

Hello friends! Today I wanted to share a quick tutorial on how to create mini envelopes.

I recently was a guest designer over at My Creative Scrapbook and was asked to create some layouts using the beautiful December Main Kit.

When I saw the vellum papers in the kit, I thought they would be great for making some miniature envelopes to add some embellishments or use as an advent calendar.

To create these envelopes you will need:

A mini envelope paper punch or a template (I used a paper punch for mine)
Scissors
Liquid glue
A bone folder
A strong adhesive.  (I used my ATG gun to adhere the back of the mini envelopes to the background paper)

 To being my project,  I punched 25 mini envelopes, some with the striped vellum and some with the dotted vellum.

I took my bone folder and scored across the the fold where the top flap would fold, one on the left hand flap, one on the right hand flap and the bottom flap.  I folded all the flaps on the fold lines toward the middle as shown below.

I added a dab of liquid glue and and secured the flaps as shown below.

I chose to keep the upper flap open so something can be tucked inside. The envelope is now complete.

On my layout,  I spaced the envelopes evenly on the background paper alternating striped envelopes and dotted envelopes adhering them to the background paper with my ATG tape runner.  As you will notice, I also added one mini envelope to the top right hand corner of the photo.

If you don't have a mini envelope paper punch, Here is a photo of the shape of the envelope when it is folded.  It measures 1.5 inches high by 1.5 inches wide.  Simply hand draw this shape and cut it out with some scissors.

My Creative Scrapbook November Sketch

Hello friends! Do you enjoy creating with sketches? Every month at My Creative Scrapbook, there is a new sketch revealed on the 16th of the month.  Here is the one for November.

I stayed true to the sketch.  I hand stitched the title "Thankful" in some brown embroidery floss for a little whimsy.

Another Layout With The My Creative Scrapbook November Main Kit

Hello friends! Today I wanted to share another layout that I created from the My Creative Scrapbook Main Kit for November.  I am a guest designer for My Creative Scrapbook again this month.  This layout was a lot of fun to create and I wanted to use a lot of photos of things that I am thankful for.

I hand cut the letters of my title from white card stock and then instead of using a Fuse Tool, I machine stitched around the letters leaving a little space so I could add some stars that I punched out with a paper punch.  Then I machine stitched the letters closed.  I also used some chipboard frames to give it a fun look.

This was my favorite layout that I created with the main kit.  I have two more that I will share this month so keep coming back.

I am honored once again to be asked to guest design for November and I loved working with the November 2015 Main Kit.  I thought I would share one of my layouts today and I will share the other three layouts throughout November.  This is my first layout:

I decided to make a layout of my daughter.  The kit is based on a Fall/Thanksgiving theme, but I wanted to show you how the kit can also be used to create everyday layouts.  My daughter's sweater was a dark maroon color and I thought it would work perfectly with the November main kit.

I used the Lindy's Stamp Gang spray from the main kit and sprayed the wood veneer word "celebrate" and used it as part of my title.  I used my one inch square paper punch and punched out several squares of different patterned papers.  If they are cut in half diagonally, they create a triangle.  I arranged the paper triangles in a pattern as shown above and machine stitched them down to the background paper in a dark green thread.  I also used the spray to color the creme ribbon.  The chipboard frames are so fun to work with in this kit.  I try to use them not only as frames for the photos, but also with die cuts.

Guest Designer At Scrapbook And Cards Today Magazine

Hello friends! Today I am very honored to be a guest designer on the Scrapbook And Cards Today Magazine Blog using the November Freebie Digital Cut File designed by the amazingly talented Nicole Nowosad.

I decided to create a Halloween layout of my friend's two little cuties.

To explain my design process, I cut the cut file on a 12 X 12 piece of black card stock with my Silhouette Cameo, turned it over onto the backside and backed the design with some patterned papers from the Crate Paper After Dark Collection.  Then, I adhered it to a white 12X12 card stock background that I first watercolored with some Tim Holtz Dried Marigold Distress Ink.  To embellish the layout, I glued some adorable bat sequins, orange sequins and star sequins that are also from the After Dark Collection, and placed them randomly around the page.  To complete the layout, I splattered with some Liquitex Black India Ink, let it dry and then added three  flair buttons from A Flair For Buttons.  To make the flair buttons pop and to give them more interest and texture, I wrapped the flair buttons with orange sewing thread.
