Creating Backgrounds With Distress Inks

Hello friends! Today I wanted to share some tutorials on how I created four different backgrounds for my layouts with distress inks. The layouts were created using the March Main Kit from My Creative Scrapbook.

For the first layout, I began with the Ranger Tattered Rose and Victorian Velvet Distress Ink Pads and used the left edge of each of the distress ink pads and pressed down and swiped in short swipes.

Here is the completed layout for this technique:

For the second layout, I created a horizontal striped background by simply using the Ranger Tattered Rose Distress Ink Pad swiping the ink pad flatly across the white cardstock as shown below.

Here is the layout that I created with the horizontal striped technique.

For the third technique, I began with six colors of distress inks.
Ranger Tattered Rose, Victorian Velvet, Tumbled Glass, Scattered Straw, Worn Lipstick and Peeled Paint

I began with the Peeled Paint Ink Pad and began at the top edge and dabbed the ink pad with the top edge of the ink pad across the 12X12 white cardstock, as shown, until it was randomly stamped across the entire page.

I added the second color, Scattered Straw using the same technique

Next I used the Worn Lipstick

Then the Tumbled Glass Ink Pad

Followed by the Tattered Rose Ink Pad

Finally I added the Tumbled Glass Ink Pad

Here is the completed layout:

The fourth technique with distress inks is a faux woodgrain background.  I love this technique.  I began with a scoring board and a 12X12 sheet of white cardstock and Ranger Tattered Rose Distress Ink.  If you do not have a scoring board, a ruler and a bone folder will also work.  Begin by placing the white cardstock in the scoring board and scoring lines every two inches or whatever width is desired.  I chose a width of two inches for my layout.

I swiped along the scored lines from left to right placing the entire surface of the ink pad flatly along the surface.

My ink pad is not saturated with ink and is fairly dry, but I didn't want the color too saturated.

Here is my layout with this technique.

I hope you have enjoyed these tutorials and remember that practice makes perfect.  It makes the kit stretch a little further too.  Have a creative day!

Be Youtiful Layout

Hello everyone! Hope you are having a good Wednesday so far. Today I am sharing my last layout with the March Main Kit at My Creative Scrapbook.  I was able to create five layouts with this kit and to make it stretch even further, I added white cardstock backgrounds to most of them with some inking techniques that I will be sharing next week.  There are still some scraps leftover to make a few cards.

For this layout, I created a faux wood background using inks on a white cardstock background.  I had lots of journal cards left over, so I layered them around the photo and added some chipboard and some stickers that I popped up with foam dimensional squares.

Thank you for joining me as I shared this wonderful kit.  Be sure and check out all the amazing kits at My Creative Scrapbook.  I am certain that you will see one that is perfect for you.

In a few days, I will be sharing some layouts with the March Creative Kit so please check back. Have a lovely day!

Mom Layout

Hello everyone! Glad you stopped by!

I really love working with scrapbook kits because they take the guesswork out of matching papers, embellishments etc.  I am honored to be asked to play with such great scrapbook kits from My Creative Scrapbook.  Pam Rangel does a fantastic job each month designing the kits.  For March, I was excited to work with the Main kit as well as the Creative kit. They are both equally gorgeous. My Mind's Eye has always had my vote with such beautiful collections ever since they began in 1999. The Hello Gorgeous collection is no exception.

My mother is someone that I look up to and I always love to honor her with scrapbook layouts.  I took this photo last year on Mother's Day.

The grid design is one of my favorite designs for a layout. I love to pile on the embellishments and use up my paper scraps.  For this particular  layout, I began with a 12X12 piece of cardstock and took several Tim Holtz Distress Inks and went crazy dabbing them onto the cardstock to create this very colorful background.  It may have been overkill, but I still am happy how it turned out.  Later this month, I will be sharing a tutorial on how to create several backgrounds by simply using distress inks so keep checking back.

Here are a few detailed closeups:

Thanks for taking the time to stop by.  I really appreciate it.  I always welcome comments to see that people are reading my blog.

Have a great day and be sure to check out all the kits for March at My Creative Scrapbook.

Smile Layout

Hello friends! I know it's Monday, but the sun is shining so it's all good.  Just thought I would share another layout with the March Main kit at My Creative Scrapbook.  I simply LOVE the rose pink, the cream, aqua and green colors to this beautiful collection from My Mind's Eye.

For this selfie layout, I added a white cardstock background and chose the green scalloped paper and machine stitched around the scalllops very carefully as well as the photo mat.  I love the homespun feel it gives the layout.

I added some journal cards, chipboard pieces, stickers, ribbon, a fabric brad, which I absolutely love, and some mini silk roses tucked into the lace bow.

Well there you have it. My third layout with the March Main kit at My Creative Scrapbook.  Here are all the kits that are available to purchase.  The top left photo below is the March Main Kit, the top right photo is the March Creative kit.  The bottom left is the March LE kit and the bottom right is the March Album kit.

Be sure and check out the My Creative Scrapbook design team gallery for March.  The ladies once again outdid themselves.  Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful day!

March Sneak Peeks at My Creative Scrapbook

It's another exciting day at My Creative Scrapbook.  The sneak peeks of the four March kits are revealed and I am in love with them all.

I was given the Main kit and the Creative kit to design with and I love them both equally.  I immediately was drawn to the beautiful soft colors and looked at all my girly, spring, easter and wedding photos.

Here is one of the layouts that I created with the March Main kit which include some of the My Mind's Eye Hello Gorgeous papers, journal cards, chipboard and fabric brads.

This little girl is so cute and feisty.  She loves playing mommy by putting on makeup.  For this layout I added a white card stock background that I added some distress inks to give it more of a wispy, soft feel to the background.  Sometimes I feel that white card stock is too stark so I wanted to add a bit of interest without it being too overpowering.  Later this month I will share four techniques that I used distress inks to add some interest to white card stock backgrounds.

Now it's time for the sneak peeks.  I know you are going to love them.

Aren't they great! Which is your favorite?  Again, Pam Rangel, owner of My Creative Scrapbook always does a fantastic job creating the monthly kits.

March 5 is the big day of the design team reveal so you won't want to miss it.  Thanks for stopping by and have a fabulous day!
