Rustic Ribbon Tree And Tutorial

Hello friends! Today I am on the A Flair For Buttons blog sharing my Rustic Ribbon Tree.

Are you all prepared for the holidays?  I am off to a slow start this year but try to find some time to do some crafts.  I find it is a great way to take a break from all the hustle bustle of the season, put on some festive music with a hot mug of apple cider and create.  I am sharing a tutorial on how to make one for a gift or for your home.

YOU WILL NEED:

A pair of scissors to cut ribbon

1- 3 7/8 inch X 8 7/8 inch foam cone (mine was from Michael's, but I have seen them at Wal-mart)

4 spools of ribbon (I used 2 - 5/8 inch wide and  2 - 7/8 inch wide ribbon in 3 yard spools) in coordinating colors (I got my ribbon on sale for 70% off at Michael's).

A hot glue gun and glue sticks

One flair button for the top of the tree (I used the red trees from the Joy Flair Set at A Flair For Buttons)

INSTRUCTIONS:

• Cut four inch lengths of four coordinating ribbons.  You will need quite a few to complete the tree.
•   
• Fold the four inch pieces of ribbon in half to form a loop.

• Beginning at the bottom of the foam cone,  hot glue the looped ribbon pieces going around the foam cone layer by layer.  As you can see, my tree has six layers of ribbon.  If you don't have a glue gun, straight pins would work well too.

• After all the layers are completed and there are no bare spots, tie a bow and glue it to the top of the cone.

• Hot glue the flair button to the middle of the bow.

• The tree is now complete!

I am a slow crafter so this tree took me about an hour and a half to complete and only one burn on my hand. Ha!

My Creative Sketches June Sketch

Hello scrappy friends!  I am happy to share the June Sketch for My Creative Sketches.  It was a fun sketch to scrap with and Liz Chidester always designs a fabulous one.

Here is the layout I created

Triangles are a challenge for me but it was nice to work out of my comfort zone.  I decided to create a stencil from a digital cut file and cut it out with my Silhouette Cameo.  I used several distress inks and some stamps for texture.  I had a chipboard embellishment that I added for some more depth and interest as well as some wood shapes,  pearls, stickers and a flair button.

Country Living Layout

Hello friends! Happy Sunday!  Today I would like to share a layout I created using the We R Memory Keepers Country Livin' Collection.  I love the mountains nearby and I love to go to the country every chance I get.  It just gives me peace.  It must be all the fresh air and the open space and sky and of course the beautiful landscapes and  animals.

I created this using Sketch #267 over at Creative Scrappers.  I rotated the sketch.

Scrap Our Stash September 1 Challenge

Today I am sharing my layout for Scrap Our Stash's September 1 Challenge.  The theme is travel and the challenge is to use at least one travel embellishment (eg. plane, bus, car, boat, train, bike) as well as one travel sign.  Here is what I came up with:

 I used some modeling paste and a swiss dot stencil on the background paper as well as some mist splatters for texture.  I also diecut some overlays and diecuts with my Cameo as well as added some wood embellishments, flair buttons and enamel dots for added interest.

Scrap It With A Song "We Belong" By Pat Benatar

Today at Scrap It With A Song it's the Rock Chicks turn to inspire you with the tune "We Belong" by Pat Benatar.

 Yes, this is an oldie but goodie and I know I'm dating myself, but I remember when I was 16 years old and sang this song in a band with some friends.  Oh the memories of hanging out at our local music store where a group of us practiced after hours.  Good times.  Anyways, I digress.  Here is my take on the song "We Belong":

I used the C'est La Vie Collection by Bo Bunny for all the papers and some older flowers from Bo Bunny as well as some lace and letter stickers from Bo Bunny and Echo Park.  I added a flair button from Evalicious  and some pearls from Kaisercraft.  I fussy cut some of the flowers too!

I hope you are inspired to scrapbook a layout with this song.  I chose to use the title of the song for my title, but you can use any lyrics from the song or even the band's name to create your own.  Just have fun with it and there is always something fun going on at Scrap It With A Song so check out what the other Rock Chicks created here and be sure to upload your creation to the link by February 28 for a chance to win this prize courtesy of Shelley!
