I'm A Design Team Member At Susan K. Weckesser!!!

Hello everyone!  Please pinch me.  I am so honored and thrilled to be asked to be on the Susan K. Weckesser's design team!  I will be designing for Susan for the next term starting in November until the   end of April 2014.  Here is the official announcement.

Susan is an all around lovely person and I have always admired her designs.  This is going to be such a fun adventure.  Being a guest designer for Susan the last few months and getting to know the ladies on the team was amazing and now I look forward to creating on a more regular basis.

I would love if you would join me in this new journey.  Thanks for spending some of your day with me and have a lovely day!

Practical Scrappers October Sketch

Hello scrappy followers!  Today I wanted to share a layout I created with the October sketch over at Practical Scrappers.

My son in law is such a great guy and wonderful with children.  I loved this photo of him and his nephew Quinn having some good quality time together.

For this layout,   I wanted the page to be spontaneous and fun so I reached for the new Kreaxions 4 In 1 Punch #312 with insert A and punched the middle bottom and top of the navy polka dot paper as well as the outside corners of the orange patterned papers.  I also used some stencils and got messy with some modeling paste and also splattered some gesso.  I love the new roller stamps so I inked it up with some Stormy Sky Distress Ink by Tim Holtz and rolled it around the photo to give the layout some movement and make the photo the focal point.  As you can see, I really didn't go for perfection in this layout.  There are lots of fun mistakes with the stencils and the roller stamp was not stamped perfectly straight but I am fine with that.  I just wanted to create some good, messy fun to this layout.  Oh and what layout isn't complete without some fun wood star embellishments and a flair button?

I love the new "Sunshine In My Soul" Collection that Glitz Design has recently come out with.  The colors are so autumn and so rustic.  They were the perfect choice for this layout.  I used the "Suns" paper from the collection to cut the yellow sunflower's petals.  If you will see next to the right side of the photo, I have used the Kreaxions 4 in 1 Punch #311 with insert A to punch a border design.  Kreaxions punches are so versatile and fun to work with.

The wood embellishments right now are so fun and I wanted to keep with the warm, rustic feelling of the layout so I added some words for the title as well as the dragonflies that I stained with Tim Holtz's Tea Dye Distress Stain.

Sequins are also very trendy too and I added them to the center of the flowers and also some fall leaves and applied them randomly to the page to give some bling and shine.  I also used some Heidi Swapp Color Shine in Mustard to give the center of the yellow petals of the flowers a little more pop.

To finish off the page, I took out my vintage sewing machine and my Distrezz-It-All to give more texture and dimension.  The sketch I was inspired by was created by Laura Whitaker.

Thanks so much for sharing your day with me.  I hope you are inspired to go and do a little creating.  Have a great day!

Happier At Home Art Journal - October

Hello friends!  Today I wanted to share an art journal page I created in the Happier At Home book for October.  This is a monthly class that I have been taking this year by the talented shabby chic artist Lynn Thune.
Left Page
Right Page

I applied some Tim Holtz Tumbled Glass Distress Stain as the base of the pages and then some Tim Holtz Brushed Corduroy Distress Stain and spritzed it with some water.  I tinted the ribbon with the same colours and also added some modeling paste, stamps, washi tape,  old book pages for flowers, some ribbon and lace and cut some word strips from words in the chapter of the book.

The chapter for October is about marriage. The photo is of my husband and I on our 14th wedding anniversary this past September.  The handwriting says "I need to be happy with myself so that I can be happy at home".  I truly believe in order to love we have to love ourselves first.  I know as a mother, we put all our family's needs before our own and we have to take time for ourselves. Art journaling is my way of nurturing myself as well as scrapbooking, mixed media and photography. It's just been the past two years or so that I'm not afraid to take time for myself, whether that is creating or getting a pedicure, a manicure or a little vacation alone.

I hope you enjoyed my art journal and thanks for stopping by my blog.  I always appreciate your visits and really love and welcome your comments.  Have a great day!
