Chevron Layout

Hello friends! Happy Saturday! Today I wanted to share a layout I created of my teenage son inspired by a layout created by Paige Evans.  I also wanted to bust my stash and use some older papers.

I love creating teen layouts and back to school layouts and I also love 6X6 paper pads.
This layout was created with the Off To School Collection by Fancy Pants Designs way back in 2011.

I cut out the title "Clay" on white card stock with my Silhouette Cameo, watercolored it with Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Squeezed Lemonade and splattered some Liquitex Black India Ink.

For the triangle paper shapes, I took a one inch square paper punch and punched out square shapes and them cut them in half diagonally.  Then I arranged the paper triangles in a pattern repeating the colors and pattern five times on the page creating chevrons.

Sewing machines are great for adhering papers on a layout so I used some temporary adhesive very sparingly to hold the paper triangles in place and then machine stitched along the papers in a zig zag design with white thread adhering them to the white card stock background.

Matting the photo is simple with the 6 X 6 pads.  I love lots of layering and texture behind the photo.

To complete the layout, I journaled with a black pen below the bottom chevron in a zig zag design, and last but not least, a flair button from A Flair For Buttons and some red embroidery thread to make the flair button pop.

I hope you enjoyed your visit.  Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a great Saturday!

We Are Family Too

Hello friends! Happy Friday! Today I am sharing a layout at Just Nick Digital Cut Files using the Scribble Circle Background.  I love this fun background and decided to create a layout of my niece's horses.

I cut the background on my Silhouette Cameo on some woodgrain patterned paper and adhered it to the gingham yellow paper that is backed onto white card stock paper.

I machine stitched in brown thread over the center of the die cut circles going lengthwise and crosswise.  Then I added all my chipboard embellishments and matted the photo with several layers of patterned paper.

I added the title using some chipboard letters and stickers and added some cute wood veneer horse shapes that I had in my stash that would be perfect on this layout.  I wanted to give the layout a rustic, country feel.

Finally, I added some some distress ink splats in Gathered Twigs being sure to cover up the patterned paper so that it would only show up on the white card stock.

Here is a photo of the Scribble Circle Background.

All the patterned papers, stickers and chipboard embellishments are from the Pumpkin Spice and We Are Family Collections by Simple Stories.

This cut file and many, many more are available for purchase and instant download at Just Nick Digital Cut Files.

Thank you so much for stopping by and I hope you are inspired to use cut files in different ways.  Have a great day!

Thankful Layout

Hello friends! Happy Saturday! Today I am sharing a Fall layout I created using the Burlap 2 Flair Buttons from A Flair For Buttons and the Pumpkin Spice Collection from Simple Stories.

For this layout, I die cut some leaves on my Silhouette Cameo and fussy cut some pumpkins and placed the flair buttons on top of the die cut leaves and fussy cut pumpkins.  I like the dimension it gives the cluster of embellishments.  For the title, I used the chipboard word "thankful" and added a flair buttons after the title to anchor it.

I used the Burlap 2 Flair Buttons to give it the Fall homespun look that I was going for. I love the knit look of these flair buttons.  It makes me think of snuggling up by a fire and putting on a sweater.

These flair buttons and many more are available in the A Flair For Buttons store.

Knit One Purl One

Hello friends! Happy Monday! It's Election Day in Canada and today Canadians go to the polls to vote for the next Prime Minister.  There seems to be an increased interest in this election and I'm curious to see what the outcome will be.

This past weekend I got the urge to knit.  I don't really know what came over me except that I was scrapbooking a layout with the Simple Stories Sweater Weather Collection and noticed the cute little knit papers and a lightbulb moment came on.  I haven't knit a project since I was in junior high school when I took it as an option class.

In this class, I learned how to make slippers.  Actually, my grandma was the one that taught me how to knit when I was about 8 years old.  I immediately fell in love with it.  Lately it seems that knitting is making a comeback.  I was reading where celebrities enjoy knitting as a form of stress relief and relaxation….sort of a form of meditation.   I really get where they are coming from!

Knitting is awesome! I have always wanted to knit a sweater but I haven't tried it yet.  It's something that doesn't take up a lot of space and it can be picked up anytime.  I have seen people knitting at doctor's appointments.  I don't watch a lot of television unless I have something to work on with my hands or else I fall asleep.  My husband can attest to that!

On Saturday I went over to my local craft store and bought a skein of cotton yarn and some bamboo knitting needles and found a free knitting pattern online.  To my surprise, there are hundreds maybe thousands of free knitting patterns online.

I thought to begin with I would knit a dishcloth.  It is sort of like riding a bike, once you learn to knit, you never really forget.  Here is what I made.

Now I have all these ideas in my head that I want to try.  I think I will make a blanket for my cat.  Now my daughter and my mom want me to teach them.

Before I began scrapbooking in 2001, I used to do a lot of cross-stitching, sew crafty items such as pillows and huge Raggedy Ann Dolls, knit, rug hooking,  ceramics and plastic canvas.  Yes, I have been crafty for most of my life.  Scrapbooking is still my favorite pastime, but it's fun to mix it up.

Thanks for stopping by and hope you have a great day!

I Love Simple Stories!

Hello friends! Happy Saturday!  Today I have another Fall layout to share.  Lately, I have been scrapbooking with a lot of Simple Stories collections and I decided to dig out a collection from last year called Sweater Weather.  I added in a woodgrain background paper from the new Pumpkin Spice Collection.  I love when I can use different collections on a layout from the same manufacturer.

I really wanted to use up some paper scraps so I used my square 3 1/2 inch square paper punch and punched out several papers, used my corner rounder on all four sides of each square and inked the edges with some Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Gathered Twigs.

I love to layer papers so I randomly layered the squares until I was happy with the placement and adhered them to the background woodgrain paper.  I added two photos that I also punched out with my square paper punch and rounded the corners.  I added a diecut for the title and embellished with some chipboard for dimension and added some enamel dots and word stickers.

I love Fall and love creating layouts using paper punches.  I hope you are inspired to take out and dust off your paper punches and create a layout or card.  Thanks for stopping by and hope you have a great day

I decided to create a boy layout and I cut the cut file out with my Silhouette Cameo on some houndstooth patterned paper and added some flair buttons from A Flair For Buttons and some enamel dots.  I used some patterned paper from the Simple Stories So Rad Collection.  I love circles on a layout.

My Blog Has A New Look!

Hello friends! I have a second post for today. I wanted to share that I got my blog redesigned. Kristine Davidson took the digital kit below that I selected by Melissa Bennett and worked her magic.

It has been three years since I have had a blog redo and I thought it was time for a fresh new look.  I also changed the format from a three column blog to a two column blog with tabs for my resume', gallery and design team experience.  I love the new look and I wanted to thank Kristine for doing this for me.

Thanks for stopping by!

My Cat Sheldon Layout

Hello friends! Happy Saturday! Today I wanted to share a layout of my fur baby Sheldon for A Flair For Buttons.  He was rescued from a shelter and was in very poor health but my husband and I loved his personality so we took a chance and adopted him and nursed him back to health.  He is one funny cat.

My Creative Scrapbook October Reveal

Hello friends! I hope you are having a good week so far.

Today I wanted to share my layouts with the October Main Kit at My Creative Scrapbook. Pam Rangel, the owner of My Creative Scrapbook, has asked me to stay on as a guest designer until January so I am very honored and excited to create with her kits. She does an amazing job choosing the kits each month. I love that there are so many different ones to choose from depending on your style. She has given me the October Main Kit to work with and I just love Fall and the Fall colors in this kit by Simple Stories. It contains both the new Pumpkin Spice and the We Are Family Collections. I was able to create five layouts with the kit.

Look at all the goodies you get in the October Main Kit

There is so much eye candy on the My Creative Scrapbook Design Team Gallery right now so be sure and check out the other kits and what the amazingly talented design team has created with them all and then order one for yourself here.  I want to thank Pam again for letting me create with her kits.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Stitch It Class Layout

Hello friends! I haven't blogged much this week but have a new layout to share. When time permits, I like to take classes and improve my craft.  My friend Nicole Nowosad has her very first class at Big Picture Classes called "Stitch It" so I thought I would take her class.

I was an avid cross stitcher before I began scrapbooking so I have hundreds of colors of embroidery floss in my stash and I love hand stitching and machine stitching on my projects.  I haven't tried the string art technique so I thought I would try it.  I really find hand stitching relaxing and it was fun to sew the title.

I watercolored my letters of my title with Tim Holtz Distress Inks and some water and cut my leaf die cuts on my Silhouette Cameo.  The cut file for the leaves is one of the cut files in the new Sweater Weather set that is available to purchase and download at Just Nick Digital Cut Files.  Here are a few detailed photos of my project.

Be sure and check out her class. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a wonderful day!
