My Studio Featured At Canadian Scrapbooker Magazine!

Today on the Canadian Scrapbooker Magazine Blog, my studio is being featured.  Check it all out here!

WHERE YOU CREATE with Lee-Anne Thornton

Here are some random photos of my studio.  It still is a work in progress and I have another room in the basement that I am continuously adding to my new room.

My distress inks are all tucked away in some Ikea drawers that are on wheels that I have tucked underneath my table.

My Silhouette Cameo is used so much that I have it placed beside my table with drawers to keep the mats, extra die cuts and card stock stored away.

The cubes are all grey and there are two sets of Expedit from Ikea.  I can add fabric boxes as needed.  I also bought some black canvas boxes from the dollar store to store my embellishments.

Raskog Carts from Ikea come in the colours grey and aqua.  I love them! One stores my ribbon for making Christmas Crafts and the other is for all my paints, mists, brushes and mixed media supplies.  I love that they roll to the table so I have access to them.

This photo was my studio at Christmas.  I had a little pink Christmas tree on the Expedit and some star lights to give it a festive look.

My studio isn't complete without my cat Sheldon hanging out with me.  He wants to know that I love him more than my scrapbooking.  He usually sleeps on a blanket at my feet.

I have some shelves up and add my projects that I have just worked on recently

Thanks to my wonderful hubby for such a wonderful birthday gift.  He bought all the furniture from Ikea and assembled it himself and we are still married. Hahahaha.  It is a work in progress and I am yet to finish organizing it.  I still have the papers to organize in the closet and put my art on the walls.

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by!

Magazine Publications

Today I am celebrating my magazine publications.

It all started back in 2010 when I got the courage to submit my work.  It's not an easy thing to do, but I thought what the heck.  It's for fun and it was such a surprise when I got an email back in July 2010 from an online magazine saying they would like to publish this layout of my handsome hubby and his new car.

Superhero

Then it started a spark inside of me and I thought why not try again so I submitted to Scrapbooking.com Magazine and submitted a mini album which also got published

Winter Joy

The next year, my daughter got married and I wanted to alter a frame so I submitted another one to the "altered submission call" at Scrapbooking.com magazine and here it is:

Wedding Altered Frame

Then there were a few more layouts:

Baking With Love
Mom
Mom's Diner
Then I thought why not try submitting to other magazines so I tried Scrapbook News And Review Magazine, which I also subscribe to, and these were published:

Elly
Beautiful Bride
Good Friends
The Gown
Paradise Mini Album
Then last year,  I won an annual subscription to ScrapNArt Magazine and thought I would like to submit a layout for the "Fall Submission Call".  They published this layout in the November 2012 issue:

Thankful
Finally, my goal was to submit to some scrapbooking magazines that were printed magazines that were sold in grocery stores, book stores and department stores. I submitted to Canadian Scrapbooker magazine as I have every issue of this amazing magazine since it was founded in 2005.  Last November, I got an email from Jackie Ludlage from Canadian Scrapbooker Magazine that they wanted to publish these two layouts.  I was over the moon excited!

Butchart Gardens
Aglow
My youngest son was so giddy to see a full page of himself in the Spring 2013 issue of Canadian Scrapbooker Magazine in print.

Now, this week, I have been informed that another layout has been picked up in the Summer 2013 issue of Canadian Scrapbooker Magazine and I couldn't be more thrilled as I am Canadian and love my country.

So I am not here to brag, brag, brag but to share the fact that we all have goals and dreams and it doesn't matter what age you are, but that dreams and goals can be realized even at my age.  Creativity doesn't have an age attached to it.   My dream or niche didn't start to be realized until I was in my late forties.  Art was one of my worst classes in school as I don't like being rushed when I create and I didn't like being graded on something where there is no mistakes, in my opinion.  Art is supposed to be fun and for me it is therapeutic as well as a way of preserving memories of my family and friends and all the beautiful things around me.  It is a piece of me that I can share with others and it will be preserved for many years to come.  I can't say the same about cleaning my house.  I want to set an example for my children that hard work and persistence pays off no matter what the goal or dream is.

Everyone begins somewhere and 18 months ago, I mustered up the courage to apply for design teams and Anam Stubbington, who is an amazingly talented lady that founded the iphone app "Sketches To Scrapbook", asked if I would like to join her team.  I was so honoured and flattered that she liked my creations.  Anam moved from Canada back to the U.K. and then she asked me to join Twisted Sketches as a design team member for her fabulous sketches and the rest is history!  It really was nice that she believed in me as I was going through a very hard time personally and it really boosted my self esteem.  After that, I applied to Scrapbook Challenges, another international design team that has weekly sketches, a forum and challenges and was accepted.  I have been on Scrapbook Challenges for 3 terms now and have made such great scrappy friends.  I have also designed on Let's Capture These Sketches, Scrap It With A Song and Sketches In Thyme and now Practical Scrappers too!

The past two years have been such a creative journey for me and it has taught me that a person has to believe in themself and to work hard and never give up. It has also helped me to come out of my shell, so to speak, and put myself out there, which is never easy. I really couldn't have done it without my family and friends supporting me and it has been so great to make such awesome scrapbooking friends from all over the world that have the same passion. We are all different, but yet the same.

Lately, I have been having some personal issues so I am taking this month off from all my design teams to take care of my family and myself,  but want to refresh and carry on this journey in April.  I don't know where it will take me, but it definitely has been great ride.

Thanks to everyone that believes in me and thank you for stopping by my blog.  It means a lot to me that you come and visit.

Have a wonderful day!

A Time To Celebrate!

Today is a very special day and it's a time to celebrate.

Today I went to my mailbox and the Canadian Scrapbooker Magazine Spring 2013 issue has arrived!  This is a big day for me because it's the first time I have had my layouts published in this magazine and I am so excited and so proud to be a Canadian.  Check out pages 46 and 65 to see my layouts.  My son checked the mailbox earlier today as he is pretty proud to be the star in one of my layouts.

Just had to share this milestone in the blogging world!  Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

A Sneak Peek!

Sharing a sneak peek of the cover of Canadian Scrapbooker's Magazine Spring 2013 issue.

Canadian Scrapbooker Magazine Spring 2013

I am just a tad giddy because two of my layouts have been picked up in this wonderful magazine that is published quarterly.  I have been published in several online scrapbooking magazines, but this is the first time I have been published in a printed magazine other than a cooking magazine called "Light & Tasty".

It goes on sale around March 1 and you don't have to be Canadian to subscribe.  Subscriptions can be sent internationally as well.  Just go to www.canadianscrapbooker.ca and click on "subscribe" and soon you can be reading this magazine too.  There are always fresh new ideas and the staff are always coming up with new and creative ways to get your creative juices flowing.

Thanks for letting me share my excitement.  Have a great day!

There's An App For Scrap!

Would you like to know a way to keep your scrap stash and your wish list all organized and in one place?  Well, there is an app for that.  If you have an Apple iPhone, iPod, or IPad, you can check out Scrappypedia.com

Here is a Youtube video explaining the new beta app:

and here is a little more of a tutorial on how to use the barcode on products to add to your stash list and wish list:

I think I will have to give this a go.  Thanks to Kerri Yarus, my fellow design team member at Practical Scrappers for sharing this.

Have a great Friday!

My Favourite 12 Of 2012

All I can say is this has been a fantastic year for me for scrapbooking and if I had to look back on 2012 I would say that I enjoyed every minute of my design teams, the friendships and the way scrapbooking has helped me in so many personal ways.  Thanks to all of you who read my blog and also that leave comments in your busy day.  I truly appreciate it!  As my blog title reads "Love The Journey....living life to the fullest one day at a time".  I can honestly say creativity feeds my soul and I hope it does yours too or whatever you choose to call your hobby or something you enjoy.

In 2012, I created a total of 125 layouts.  Not that I'm counting, but with being on 5 design teams, it keeps a girl happy and busy.  All of these layouts mean something special to me, because I create with my heart and soul and usually I scrapbook whatever person, animal or thing that is on my mind for that day.  There are about three I have out for publication at the moment, so I wasn't able to share those layouts, but here are some of my personal 12 favourites:

Layout created for Scrap It With A Song - One Thousand Years

My daughter and her dog Elly
A layout created for Scrap It With A Song for our personal favourite Christmas carol.  Silent Night
A layout created For Scrapbook Challenges of our great Canadian winters.
A layout created for Twisted Sketches of my son at the beach.
A layout created for Let's Capture These Sketches of my husband's aunt who was a nurse in Ethiopia and Kenya for 30 years.
My late brother Dean who passed away 6 years ago.  This was created for Let's Capture These Sketches
A layout on Elly for Scrapbook Challenges
A layout created for Scrapbook Challenges
A layout created for Let's Capture These Sketches
A Halloween Layout created for Scrapbook Challenges
A layout of my dear friend.  Created for Scrapbook Challenges

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a wonderful day and hope that you take some time to do something you love.
