Today I am sharing somewhat of a mixed media layout.  My background was created on some white card stock with the help of Tim Holtz Distress Inks in Abandoned Coral, Cracked Pistachio and Squeezed Lemonade then I added some splatters of Heidi Swapp Colorshine Mists in Black Velvet and Teal.

I added several embellishments from my stash such as stickers, buttons, wood veneer birdies, flair, brads, bakers twine and a crochet flower.  The patterned paper, stickers and alpha stickers are from Echo Park's Simple Life Collection.

I hope you enjoyed your visit.  You are at the end of the hop.  I hope you are inspired by all the projects.  Thanks for hopping!

Creative Embellishments Guest Designing At Scrap Around The World

Hello friends! Today I am excited to share that the Creative Embellishments design team has been asked to guest design over at Scrap Around The World. I have always loved Scrap Around The World's mood boards and love all the beautiful eye candy I see on this website.  Below is the mood board the Creative Embellishments team had to work with:

I immediately was inspired by the girl's hair and it made me think of my daughter on her wedding day and her beautiful hair.  She looked like a princess and I wanted to create a shabby chic layout with lots of flowers and lace.

I began the layout by using two of the same pieces of patterned paper from the Bo Bunny Enchanted Collection and punched around the entire outside edge of one of the papers with a heart border punch.  I then cut a large square of the same paper and then distressed it and inked it with some distress paint.  I adhered it to the bottom sheet matching it up as close as possible.  I took some purple acrylic paint and a clear stamp and stamped randomly around the bottom paper.  Next, I chose the chipboard Doily Frame from Creative Embellishments and painted it with a coat of gesso and then dabbed on three different colours of acrylic paint.  For the Creative Embellishments chipboard Trellis, I also painted it with a coat of gesso and then painted it with green paint and then added some gesso here and there to give it a shabbier, vintage look.  I then went crazy with lots of flowers, lace, pearls and jewels.  Finally I took a sponge brush and dry brushed some gesso over the flowers and papers to give it more of a shabby chic look.  Finally I separated some strands of cheesecloth and wrapped it around some of the flowers to give it more texture.  Here are some closeups.

There are some AMAZING prizes to be won so be sure and link up at Scrap Around The World here.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Remembrance Day Layout

Hello friends! Happy Sunday!  Today I wanted to share a layout I created for Remembrance Day.

I wanted to honour all the men and women who have sacrificed to keep my country,  Canada free. Freedom is something I never take for granted.

A few years back, I photographed a Red Poppy in a friend's back yard and this is what inspired me to create this layout.

I began with a piece of white card stock and added some clear gesso and then added some blue acrylic paint.  I applied some modelling paste to a stencil to give it more texture.

I used my Silhouette Cameo with the Flower Power Cut File from The Cut Shoppe and cut out the flower background on some red card stock and took my scissors and carefully cut a few of the flowers as I wanted to only use about four of them on my layout.

I added some red watercolour paint below some of the flower petals and in random areas and then added some black paint splatters.

Next I cut my title on my Cameo on some black card stock and then adhered the papers, flowers, flair, tags, and twine. Finally I added some zig zag stitching with my sewing machine below the title.

I journaled on the journaling card and voila! It is completed.  This layout was inspired by a sketch I saw this morning at Creative Scrappers.

I rotated the sketch like so...

This felt special to creae this layout and it made me proud to be Canadian.  I hope you enjoyed your visit. Thanks for stopping by!

November Challenge At Creative Embellishments

Hello friends! Can you believe it is November already? Wow!  Today at Creative Embellishments we are revealing our November Challenge and this is the inspiration photo for the challenge.

The twist is what are you thankful for?  I am thankful for so many things that I can't count them all but for this particular layout, I am thankful for my parents who are probably the most kind and giving people I know.

I was also inspired by the colors and the pumpkins and came up with this layout of my parents.

I created this mixed media layout with some paper scraps that I had from another project and added lots of paint, ink and stamps as well as some gold thread and orange thread to give it more interest.  It's the first time I have used thread on a layout besides machine stitching or hand stitching and I like the effect.

I used the Creative Embellishment's Distressed Burlap Stamp for some of the background stamping and  painted pumpkins as well as the Creative Embellishments Pumpkin Faces Chipboard and also the Autumn Leaves Set and the Autumn Leaves Set (set of 6)

I hope you enjoyed your visit.  What inspires you about the November Challenge Inspiration Photo?  You can link your project for the November Challenge at Creative Embellishments here to be eligible to win a prize.  Thanks for visiting!

2 Cute 2 Spook Layout

Hello friends! Today at Creative Embellishments, I have Halloween on my mind so I thought I would create a Halloween layout with some of Creative Embellishments yummy wood veneers and chipboard.  For my layout,  I painted the 2 Cute 2 Spook Chipboard Title with acrylic paints and also the Pumpkin Faces Chipboard piece as well as the Ghost (Set Of 6) Wood Veneers.  I also cut out all the patterned paper triangles with my Silhouette Cameo and used my sewing machine to stitch around the triangles.  All the patterned paper triangles and little circle embellishments are from the Witches Brew Collection by Jillibean Soup.

Creative Embellishments October Challenge

Happy Wednesday!  Today I am excited to share my first design team project for Creative Embellishments with all of you.  For the October Challenge, the design team was asked to create a project and the twist was "distress".  I was inspired by the photo below to create a Fall layout and I used several distress inks to create my layout.

I just love all the fall themed chipboard and used four different sets of chipboard for this layout.  I used Wheat Set No. 2, The Twig Frame With Fall Leaves, The title from The Autumn Leaves Set,  and The Autumn Leaves (Set Of 6).

I also used several distress inks, paints and stains on my background and stamping as well as the leaves, frame and title.

I hoped you enjoyed my layout.  All the chipboard as well as many items can be found in the Creative Embellishments Store here.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a creative week!

Guest Designer At Scrap-lifting!

Hello friends! I was very flattered and honoured to be asked to be a guest designer over at Scrap-lifting as I was chosen as "Top 3 Layouts" for a recent challenge.

I was asked to scrap lift the amazingly talented Lisa Nazario Gregory.  She is one of my "scrappy idols" and I have the pleasure of calling her my online scrappy friend.  She doesn't know that I was scrap lifting her and I was was pleasantly surprised when I was given the task.  Lisa is also known for her beautiful creations over at Bo Bunny and I thought I would create a layout with Bo Bunny's Primrose Collection.  I love the soft green and pink and brown colour palette to this collection and thought it would be perfect papers to scrapbook my daughter and mother.

My daughter and my mom are very close and to this day my daughter calls my mom "Bama".  That was a name given to my mom instead of grandma because my son and daughter couldn't pronounce grandma when they were learning to talk so the name "Bama" stuck for all these years.

Here are some closeups of my layout

To see the layout of Lisa's that I scrap lifted, check it out on the Scrap-Lifting blog here.

Thanks for stopping by.  Have a great day!

My Creative Sketches June Sketch

Hello scrappy friends!  I am happy to share the June Sketch for My Creative Sketches.  It was a fun sketch to scrap with and Liz Chidester always designs a fabulous one.

Here is the layout I created

Triangles are a challenge for me but it was nice to work out of my comfort zone.  I decided to create a stencil from a digital cut file and cut it out with my Silhouette Cameo.  I used several distress inks and some stamps for texture.  I had a chipboard embellishment that I added for some more depth and interest as well as some wood shapes,  pearls, stickers and a flair button.

The ocean brings me peace.  I love going to Vancouver Island.  It reminds me so much of Hawaii in beauty.  Thanks for stopping by and hope you have a chance to play and link up your layout for a chance and an amazing prize from My Creative Scrapbook.  The kits are outstanding and there are at least four every month to choose from.  One for every scrapbooker's style as well as Project Life.
