Father's Day Cards

Hello friends! It's Friday! Since Father's Day is a few weeks away, I wanted to share some quick and simple Father's Day cards that I made for my dad and my father-in-law.

I don't make cards very often and it's such a great way to use up paper scraps and save a little money too. I created both of these cards from the Carta Bella Well Played Collection patterned papers with some sequins added in from Fancy Pants Designs. I found a wood title in my stash made my Heidi Swapp so I painted it with some Tim Holtz Barn Door Distress Paint.  I love the dabbers on these paints. It makes painting wood easy peasy.  The label sticker and mini alpha stickers are from Teresa Collins.

Thanks for stopping by and hope you have a fabulous weekend doing something you love.

Creative Embellishments February Challenge

Hello friends! Today is the first day of February and that means that there is a new challenge at Creative Embellishments.  For the February Challenge, the challenge is to create a layout, mini album, tag, card, or canvas and to add an ombre/gradient effect to some chipboard using the photo below for inspiration.

This is the layout I created for the challenge.  Hanna is such a sweetie. Children look so sweet when they sleep don't they?

You Are My Happy by Lee-Anne Thornton (photo by Rockwood Photography)
For my background I used a stencil and some modelling paste and sprayed some mists and stamped the background with the Circles Stamp from Creative Embellishments.  I also painted the Hot Air Balloon chipboard with a light pink acrylic paint and then added a darker pink over the top half to give it the ombre/gradient effect.  I did the same for the Valentine's Hashtags xoxo chipboard word.

The wood veneer Hearts were randomly placed around the layout.

Adding some tags that I altered with some pennant stickers and some splats of paint add more interest and because I am loving the gold trend, I added a gold doily and some vellum paper with tiny gold hearts.

I encourage you to play along with at Creative Embellishments and link up your layout for the February Challenge for a chance to win a $30 gift certificate from Creative Embellishments.  There is an entire month to link up your entry.  As you know, Creative Embellishments has some wonderful chipboard, wood veneers, flair and stamps that are sure to make you giddy and not break your budget.  Check out all the details and play along here. Thanks for stopping by!

April 15 Sketch At Stuck?! Sketches

Hello friends!  Happy Tuesday!  Today there is another sketch and design team reveal at Stuck?! Sketches and I created a layout on my niece who is an avid horse lover and enjoys English and Western riding as well as barrel racing and jumping.  My brother, who passed away when she was two, would have been proud of his daughter.  She really looks like him when he was a child and they both share the daredevil and fearless personality. Hahaha.

For this layout I used the Giddy Up Girl Collection from Carta Bella, which is perfect for any girl that loves horses.  I cut the accordion flower with my Silhouette Cameo and also a border and then laced it with some ribbon as well as used a texture stamp and some wood stars for interest.

Here is the sketch that is designed by owner and designer Laura Whitaker.  She really has a talent for designing amazing sketches.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you are inspired to create with this sketch and link up for a chance at an amazing prize.  All the details and the entire design team reveal is here.

Have a creative day!

Friday Challenge #11 At Scrapbooker's Paradise

Happy Friday!  Today my fellow design team member Pam is hosting a challenge up at Scrapbooker's Paradise.  The challenge is to use a black and white or sepia photo and create a layout or a card with a splash of color.

Here is the layout that I created of my daughter

This layout was fun to do.  I created a stencil with my Silhouette Cameo and sprayed it onto white card stock with Heidi Swapp Color Shine Mists in Primrose, Peach, Sweet Cherry and then added some splatters with Black Velvet.

I then added a circular photo, which I cut with a circle cutter and a 4X6 photo in black and white and matted it with a pink piece of patterned paper and added a sheer pink ribbon and some large sequins.

I adhered some of the die cut butterflies that were from the stencil and then some mini letter stickers.

I matted the white card stock background with a black sheet of card stock that I had used to cover the areas of my stencil so there is a a little spray on it.

I love these bright happy colors and hope you are inspired to join the challenge at Scrapbooker's Paradise.  Thanks for stopping by and don't forget to check out what my fellow design team members created with this challenge here.  Happy creating!

Practical Scrappers March Layout Sketch

Hello friends!  Today is the day Practical Scrappers reveals the March Sketch and Christine Meyer has a great one again.  For this one I used my trusted Silhouette Cameo to cut the circle background and then fussy cut some circles from the patterned paper as well as the paper strips on each edge.  To finish off the layout I used some sequins to give it some added bling.  Everything here is from the You Are My Happy Collection by Teresa Collins.  I absolutely love this collection and love the trendy gold hearts and the sequins.  This layout is of my television buddy Sheldon who just decided last week to become a lap cat.  I love it!  He does get kind of heavy after a while though.

Here are some more closeups

Here is Christine's sketch.  I thought it was fun to work with.  Anything with circles and I'm game.

Thanks for stopping by and don't forget to check out the design team's take on this sketch as well.  You can find the link here.  Have a great day!

Vellum Heart Card

Hello! Happy Sunday! Today I wanted to share a card that I created with the Kreaxions 4 In 1 Punch #905.

For this card I punched the corners of the floral paper and diecut a heart from white cardstock and punched hearts from different colored cardstock and adhered them to the diecut heart.  I then placed a sheet of vellum on top and machine stitched around the heart.  I then placed some additional punched hearts on the outside of the vellum heart and inside some of the sequins.

There is something so freeing about mixed media.  I love the "no rules" type of play.  Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful day!

"Look" Layout

Happy Sunday!  Do you ever get so inspired by a sketch that you have to go straight to your studio and create a layout?  That was me last night.  Sue Sykes shared her sketch for the February Canadian Scrapbooker Sketchy Challenge

and I absolutely loved it and knew that I wanted to create something with my Cameo and some papers from the Be Loved Collection from Fancy Pants.  I flipped the sketch so I could use a landscape type photo instead of a portrait photo.

I love my son's blue eyes and this is a snapshot of when he was eleven years old.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Hello friends!  I hope you are enjoying your weekend.  Today I have a birthday card to share using the amazing Kreaxions products.

Canadian Scrapbooker August Sketchy Challenge

Hello and happy Monday!

I hope all of my scrappy friends had a chance to create this past weekend.  I know a lot of scrapbookers take a break in the summer but autumn is just around the corner and the kids are going back to school so I know a lot of you out there will be taking out those papers and embellishments once again.

I love sketches and love taking part in sketchy challenges when my design team assignments are completed.  I try to enter the sketchy challenge at Canadian Scrapbooker Magazine as often as I can.  Here is one I created with the awesome sketch by Sue Sykes for the August 2013 Sketchy Challenge.

This photo has a special place in my heart because it was a "lightbulb" moment when I captured this photo and it won second place in a local newspaper's weekly photo contest.

Here are some more detailed photos.  I am loving the washi tape, flair buttons and wood veneer embellishment craze at the moment.  The papers and stickers are from October Afternoon's Travel Girl Collection.

Here is Sue Sykes's sketch that inspired me:
